Samburu

Samburu National Reserve is a game reserve located in Samburu County, Kenya. It is situated 350 kilometers from Nairobi and covers an area of 165 km². The reserve is home to a variety of wildlife, including the Grevy’s zebra, Somali ostrich, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, and the beisa oryx which together is called the Samburu Five. The park is situated on the banks of the Ewaso Ng’iro river, which provides water to the game in this arid region. On the other side of the river is the Buffalo Springs National Reserve.

Samburu National Reserve can be entered via the Ngare Mare and Buffalo Springs gates. Once inside the reserve, there are two mountains visible: Koitogor and Ololokwe. The natural serenity that is evident here is due to its distance from industry and the inaccessibility of the reserve for many years.
